Fast.

We all have been moving so fast! Missing the feast.
Our hearts are still famished and our eyes cannot see.
You call us to freedom. We are continually oppressed.
"Set the captives free," you say? How can we get away?
The pull is so strong, don't you understand?
Yes, I do, I felt it in my hand.
Remember, I lifted you up, fed and held you tight?
"Clothe the naked," you say? But what about our great plight?
Listen to my voice, is all I ask.
Remember, you will Seek and Feast with me when you finally fast.

Fast and fast! A pair of homonyms whose various definitions can be used to convey near opposite meanings. You have first used it mean moving quickly, and have alluded to its cousin, who would be the compliment of feasting, the act of fasting.

In a culture driven by production and efficiency, to rely on God we must fast from fastness.

Some wonder how or why God would have created the framework for our existence in a mere 6 days; others ponder why he took so long. He did not accomplish the task He set himself to as quickly as possible. Rather, he took His time, sitting back to look over it, be pleased with it, creating a daily cycle of work, reflection, and rest. Then, on the first seventh day in history, no work was done, and the God who never tires rested. This model is for every human; no human has been made by this Creator except humans designed for this cycle. We were created in His image; may we each order our lives in such a way that we reflect His work ethic, and His design for rest and reflection.

You have also alluded to famine, which would be an involuntary fasting, perhaps sometimes used by God to get the attention of those who have ignored His cycles of work and rest. I suspect He would take such disciplinary measures with both those who are consistently lazy, and those who consistently overwork themselves, even if they suppose that they are doing His work. For He created us first for communion and love with Himself and each other; He will not allow us to substitute an ambitious or zealous work ethic for genuine love in relationship. And He has built this into our very being: if we ignore our design, “our hearts will be famished, and our eyes will not see.”
